How I Prepare For A Very Big Project

Hope you’re doing well. I just got back from a short trip to Puerto Rico to celebrate my 34th birthday. Feeling so grateful for my life!

For those who don’t know, I help lead creative at VOUS Church. We are two weeks away from our biggest project scope-wise, VOUSCon. The intensity is growing as the days pass. With all these deadlines, it can sometimes feel like the responsibility lies just on me. But that's far from the truth. Some things that are helping me fight that mindset:

  • It’s a team effort, not a Kary effort.

  • “I’m strong if you’re strong.”

  • I’ve got strengths I’ll lean on and weaknesses I’ll need help from others to fill.

  • I’m going to get tired, and that’s okay—ask for help.

  • Keep the right attitude. A team is built on commitment.

The second thing is, I’ve got to put my game face on 🫡 especially after taking a break. Here are three things that help me:

  1. Be Mission Minded — What mission have you committed to? Are you prepared to see it through? Have you counted the cost, meaning, have you taken stock of what it’s going to take?

  2. Be Solution Minded — Are you someone who contributes to the completion or the delay of the mission? Are you prepared to pivot when needed? How do you react when things change?

  3. Be Role Minded — What role do you play in the grand scheme of the mission? Are you aware of the people needed to complete the mission? How are you supporting those people?

How do you face challenging projects?
