Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work & What To Do About It

Today, I’d like to share some notes from a book I’m re-reading, The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It. It’s the book I’ve mentioned that emphasizes the importance of working on your business rather than in your business.

These are my notes so far. Hope they guide you :)

  • Build a predictable business (p. 2).

  • Your business is a reflection of who you are (p. 5).

  • Your goal is to prepare yourself and your business for growth (p. 64).

  • The key is to plan, envision, and articulate what you see in the future for both yourself and your employees (p. 65).

  • A mature company builds a business that works not because of you, but without you (p. 65).

  • A mature business knows how it got to be where it is and what it must do to get where it wants to go (p. 68).

  • What’s important is the business: how it looks, how it acts, how it does what it is intended to do (p. 71).

  • Focus on how it’s done. The commodity isn’t important—the way it’s delivered is (p. 73).
